We build better communities

At Coil, we understand that a building is more than just a building—it's a part of our community.

Coil's humble beginnings

With a degree from the University of Missouri and a $500 loan for a toolbox on the back of his truck, Randy Coil started Coil Construction to help the unmet needs of growing businesses in his community.  His entrepreneurial vision and dedication to dependability, integrity, and quality inspired his clients, employees and eventually his son.

For a small construction company in Columbia, business took off, and it hasn’t stopped since. Randy’s handful of employees grew into an experienced and collaborative team excited to work with a company that treated their employees like family.

Coil is all about family. Randy’s son David has been working at Coil since before he could drive, from various cleanup jobs to assistant project manager to project manager. Once David earned his MBA from Mizzou, he took on more executive leadership responsibilities until he finally became the owner of Coil in 2015. Now, father and son work together in a business they love, inspiring their community and future business generations to come.

Same values, new look

Starting in 1975 as a small commercial construction company in Columbia, Missouri, Coil Construction set out to fill the need for a professional commercial remodeling company that specialized in taking on jobs that were too small for the larger general contracting firms at the time.

Almost 50 years later, Coil is now a multi-million dollar construction management firm that still holds onto the values and environment of a small business wanting to help its community.

Our process

We want to build the right way and include our clients in every step of that way with us. Our process is designed with transparency, accountability and incentives in all the right places. It also allows our clients the opportunity to be as involved as they would like in the design and construction of their building.

Design

We begin our work by meeting with clients to understand their space needs and project goals. Our team creates conceptual designs, always ensuring to meet with clients regularly to see if designs need to be adjusted. As design progresses, we update the project’s schedule and budget to ensure we are meeting our client’s goals.

Build

When it comes time to build, we work hard to include our clients as much in the process as possible. We include them in the bidding and subcontractor selection process, we give them regular construction progress updates from their construction management team and allow on-site tours throughout the entire building process.

Maintain

We don’t stop after construction is complete. We also work with clients to help maintain building safety, utility and beauty. Our facility technicians are available to help with routine maintenance and inspections, as well as unexpected service calls when something goes awry.
