Celebrating 50 Years: Coil Employee Reflections

As Coil continues to celebrate 50 years in business, we’re reflecting on the people, projects and progress that have shaped our journey.

Our success is driven by a team of talented, skilled professionals whose diverse backgrounds and expertise play an essential role in our mission to design, build and maintain projects for our clients. Together, their dedication and knowledge continue to define who we are today.

Finding their way to Coil.

Megan Stevens, CPA, and Chief Financial Officer, began her path to Coil through outsourced accounting services. As she continued working with the team, she was drawn to Coil’s unique blend of “large company capabilities with a small company feel,” along with its close-knit, family-oriented culture. She officially joined the Coil team two and half years ago and hasn’t looked back since.

Jason Morgan, Director of Facilities Management and Small Projects Division, joined the Coil team in 2022 and was immediately drawn into the wide variety of work that Coil offered. He saw this as an opportunity to broaden the types of projects he could take on and widen his experiences. Over the course of his three years at Coil, his work has changed significantly. “When I started, the work was focused on typical repairs and that has completely switched. Now, we spend 70% of our time on projects and 30% on daily repairs. This shift has pushed me to really hone my skills as a project manager”.

Jason Ewalt, P.E., Project Manager, has worked alongside Coil throughout his 20+ year career at a local engineering firm, so when he was ready for a new professional chapter, Coil was at the top of his list. What stood out to him most was, “Coils reputation for professionalism, integrity and quality”. Jason joined the team three years ago and has since managed a variety of projects.

Reflections on success.

At Coil, achievementsbig or small, don’t go unnoticed. We’re committed to supporting and encouraging the growth and success of every employee. For Megan, her proudest accomplishment isn’t tied to a single milestone. Instead, she highlights, “it’s the many small changes in the right direction and striving to do better as a team each day. Megan recognizes the collective efforts of the team and the power of consistency that turns small steps into meaningful and lasting success for our team and our clients.

Coil’s Impact and Legacy.

For Jason Morgan, some of his proudest moments at Coil aren’t necessarily project-based. “Some of my most memorable achievements have nothing to do with the projects we’ve worked on,” he shared. “They come from the quarterly volunteer work we do through our Coil Cares programWe’ve supported a variety of local charities and nonprofits like St. Raymond’s Society, the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri and most recently, we helped hang Christmas lights at the Ronald McDonald House.”

Coil’s dedication to the community and its local roots have remained steadfast over the past 50 years. Jason said, “The biggest eye-opener for me of Coil’s community impact was at the 50th Anniversary celebration earlier this year. I couldn’t believe how many people showed up from all corners of town. I saw people I knew outside of Coil and suddenly realized we’d worked on projects for them 20+ years ago. It was incredible to see how many came out to support us based on past, positive experiences and to honor the legacy Randy’s built here.”

Coil’s Team and Culture.

Jason Ewalt’s experience at Coil has been shaped by meaningful work, strong partnerships and the opportunity to contribute to projects that reflect Coil’s high standards. “Our team is made up of people with a diverse and wide range of experiences. Anytime I’m working through something on a project, there’s almost always someone who has been in a similar situation and is willing to offer insight. That level of support and collaboration is one of the things that makes our team so strong.” Culture and commitment to supporting one another ensures we continue delivering the quality and integrity our clients expect.

Next Chapter.

Coil’s rich 50-year history has laid a strong foundation for an even brighter future. Whether employees have been with the company for just a few years or more than a decade, both Megan and Jason Ewalt noted the same exciting momentum: “Coil is growing quickly, and it’s an exciting to be a part of this team!”

Jason Morgan added, “I see Coil signs all over town, and it’s pretty cool to see how many projects we’re involved in. I’m looking forward to what the next 5–10 years hold as we continue to grow.”

As we celebrate 50 years, we honor the past while building for the future — with gratitude for each of our employees who help make Coil what it is today.
