Estimator
Reports to Director of Preconstruction
Description
The role of the estimator is to support our project management team with construction cost estimating and other preconstruction services. They are responsible for maintaining critical resources for our office and relied upon for developing accurate budgets and preparing bid forms for owner review.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Bid team leadership on competitive bid projects
  • Monitor bid opportunities and attend prebid meetings
  • Analyze plans and specifications for commercial construction projects ranging in value from $500,000 to $50M
  • Solicit and review bids from subcontractors
  • Use Excel and other construction estimating software to prepare construction materials takeoffs
  • Maintain database of unit costs and other useful metrics for commercial construction estimating
  • Maintain vendor list and relationship with subcontractor estimating departments
  • Coordination with owners, architects and other design team members in developing construction documents ready for final pricing
  • Development of budgetary construction cost estimates during the preliminary design phase of a project
  • Prepare and presents budget reports, bid summary sheets, bid proposal letters, and other reports needed for planning and contracting activities
  • Continually advances technical knowledge of construction assemblies and technologies used in the industry
Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Experiences
  • At least 5 years of experience in the construction industry
  • Proficient at reading and understanding construction documents
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Excel and construction estimating software
  • Ability to communicate and work well on a team
Working Environment
  • 95% Office, 5% Field
  • Working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Travel requirements include day trips for prebid meetings and reviewing existing conditions of future job sites
