Traveling Construction Superintendent
Reports to Director of Field Operations
Description
The role of the Traveling Construction Superintendent is to serve as our on-site company representative and supervisor for all construction activities from small to large commercial construction sites. The position is expected to manage, in collaboration with the Project Manager, the successful completion of assigned projects. The Traveling Construction Superintendent is the lead for job site safety, quality control and project schedule and is the liaison with architect and consultants on all field and constructibility issues.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage job site safety, quality and schedule for assigned projects from pre-construction to closeout
  • Ensure Coil’s standards of quality and safety are adhered to by assertively championing Coil’s safety culture to project team and subcontractors
  • Mentor and develop field team members while effectively managing the overall team
  • Work collaboratively with Project Manager, project team members, and field
  • Represent Coil in a professional manner
  • Manage the field and project team successfully and collaboratively
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with clients, construction managers, project team, consultants/architect/engineers, subcontractors, adjacent community, trade unions and governmental agencies
  • Responsible for the project set-up, job site logistics, field coordination and project schedule
  • Review all project documents for constructibility and content, including shop drawings
  • Maintain and update project records including RFI’s, ASI’s and as-builts
  • Create and enforce a site-specific emergency action plan for assigned projects in collaboration with the Project Manager
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors
  • Coordinate with building inspections, subcontractor inspections and agencies
  • Perform daily job site walks and submit daily safety audit reports
  • Conduct and/or attend foreman meetings, pre-task meeting, safety meetings and project staff meetings
  • Manage job site manpower production and performance
  • Other related duties as assigned or needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a foreman, superintendent or equivalent role in the construction industry
  • Degree in construction management, or related field preferred
  • Traveling Construction Superintendent must have a solid understanding of the construction industry, job site safety requirements, planning and scheduling, building trades and sequence of work and relevant technology
  • Key competencies are leadership, initiative, communication, teamwork, managing for results and coaching and mentoring
  • Must be able to proficiently read plans and specifications
  • Ability to lift weights to 50 pounds
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position on a daily and consistent basis with good hand-eye coordination and able to work in all weather
  • Able to perform work at least 6’-0” above the ground from ladders, scaffolding and aerial lifts
  • Able to safety enter/exit to-and-from roofs and excavations
  • OSHA 10-Hour Training
  • Able to consistently meet company’s expectations regarding attendance
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner with our clients and associated guests, subcontractors, suppliers and our employees that represents the Coil brand
  • Acceptable dress and appearance in accordance with the Coil employee handbook
