Coil 50th Anniversary Celebration

With a degree from the University of Missouri and a $500 loan for a toolbox on the back of his truck, Randy Coil started Coil Construction in 1975 to help meet the needs of growing businesses in the Columbia community. Fifty years later, Coil is a growing, thriving design-build Construction firm building better communities in Mid-Missouri and beyond, with projects in eight states throughout the Midwest.  

 In April we had the opportunity to celebrate with many of those who have shaped our journey over the past half century. We gathered around 500 friends, family and community members to recognize this special milestone at Logboat Brewing Company, a partner we’re proud to have worked with, completing their expansion project in 2024.

We always love the opportunity to support local businesses, and many that joined us in throwing this party are partners we’ve done projects with in the past. Guests enjoyed craft beverages from Logboat, food from Addison’s and Sophia’s, Shakespeare’s Pizza, Dippin’ Dots, Fresh Lemonade Co. and Just Jeff’s. Our Partners at Boone Electric brought two boom trucks to hoist an American Flag. 

Randy and his son, President David Coil, shared reflections on the past and future of the company. “The key for us all these years has been working with the best in the industry–people who bring strong work ethics and integrity to all they do. We surround them with supportive collaboration, transparency, a sense of community…and we give back through a working atmosphere that creates quality, efficiency and great client services,” Randy said, adding “I’m truly proud of all the team members we have at Coil. They really took us to the next level and helped us bring our reputation to what it is today.” 

David spoke to the future of Coil, saying, “We want our brand to be recognized across the region as one of the best design–build firms in the state, and we are proud that it originated here in Central Missouri. This is just the beginning, and I am excited to see what this company will do over the next 50 years as we pursue excellence at the next level.”

Coil’s 50th Anniversary celebration marks the beginning of recognizing and honoring the people, projects and progress that have shaped our journey thus far. In 1975, Coil was founded on integrity, quality and dependability and still holds these morals sacred today. As we celebrate our firm foundation and rich legacy, we know 50 years is only the beginning, and we look forward to the innovation and growth that lies ahead.
